چکیده

The effect of the inclusion Mytilus edulis shell collected from Lagos Lagoon front, University Lagos, in diets Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) on haematology fish was investigated Marine Research Laboratory University. Ten fingerlings each O. niloticus were placed plastic tanks and fed for 12 weeks with feed containing milled M. substituted Di calcium phosphate (DCP), other to utilize locally available abundant non conventional food materials. substitutions at rate 100% (T4), 75% (T3), 50% (T2), 25% (T1) 0% (T0) control diet. Each feeding regime triplicates. mean water parameters during experimental period within normal range tropical fishes, were: temperature (27.78±0.57 28.17±0.570C); pH(4±0.07 7.49±0.10) dissolved oxygen (6.19±0.633 6.46±0.633mg/l). proximate analysis showedhigher crude protein content compared DCP; this probably had a positive growth shell. Fish showed remarkable significant decrease (P>0.05) amongst diet haematological (Hb, WBC RBC). However, PCV values highest T3 (0.363±0.465) lowest (0.133±0.015). In conclusion, level substitution yielded better parameter

Strategies for Nile Tilapia (oreochromis Niloticus) Pond Culture

Different strategies for Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) culture in ponds with a series of progressive inputs were compared. The sequential experimental stages to increase fish production through intensification were: 1) triple superphosphate (TSP) only; 2) chicken manure only; 3) chicken manure supplemented with urea or urea and TSP; 4) urea and TSP; 5) continually supplemental feeding; 6...

Genotoxicity of sub-lethal di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus).

This study aimed to assess genotoxicity in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) erythrocytes after exposure to a sub-lethal concentration of 10 mg L(-1) di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) for 24 and 96 h. The results showed that mean MN frequencies in both DBP and ethyl methane-sulfonate (EMS, positive control for MN bioassay) groups were significantly different (p<0.01) with respect to control and sol...

Metacercarial Infection of Wild Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) from Brazil

Fingerlings of Oreochromis niloticus collected in an artificial urban lake from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, were evaluated for natural infection with trematodes. Morphological taxonomic identification of four fluke species was performed in O. niloticus examined, and the total prevalence of metacercariae was 60.7% (37/61). Centrocestus formosanus, a heterophyid found in the gills, was ...

Visual communication stimulates reproduction in Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (L.).

Reproductive fish behavior is affected by male-female interactions that stimulate physiological responses such as hormonal release and gonad development. During male-female interactions, visual and chemical communication can modulate fish reproduction. The aim of the present study was to test the effect of visual and chemical male-female interaction on the gonad development and reproductive beh...

Behaviours Associated with Acoustic Communication in Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)

BACKGROUND Sound production is widespread among fishes and accompanies many social interactions. The literature reports twenty-nine cichlid species known to produce sounds during aggressive and courtship displays, but the precise range in behavioural contexts is unclear. This study aims to describe the various Oreochromis niloticus behaviours that are associated with sound production in order t...
